Childhood memories often manifest through abstract feelings or sensations, rather than clearly recollected narrative.

When revisiting the earliest moments in my childhood, my mind repeatedly returns to blissful scenes in the ‘big fridge’ at our local bottle shop. Memories of dancing through the oversized maze and feeling its deep chill on a hot summer’s day conjure feelings of tender nostalgia.

However, these memories now sit alongside an awareness of the influence of alcohol and the damage it can do to intimate relationships, leaving me confused as to how I can reminisce.

Eloise is a multidisciplinary artist who works predominantly with performance and sculpture and often explores themes of childhood in her work. She uses her practice as a means to understand herself, her family and those she feels akin to, and occasionally also those she feels disconnected from. Eloise is currently living and working as a high school art teacher on the land of the Bunurong people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation / Frankston.
