Lap

Lapping (photos of video installation work in progress, 2020)

Lap is an installation that examines journey, movement and migration, comfort and the passing of time. I am interested in capturing intimate personal and interpersonal moments and longings.

Through this work, I wish to reconcile with complex feelings of displacement that result from family migration combined with my own need for escape.

Lap examines how domestic materiality reflects the cultural landscape that surrounds me, from diverse influences in my Western Sydney home to regional Australia.

Celine is an emerging artist and designer based on Darug land. Working across drawing, installation, video projection and jewellery making, her practice explores fiction, emotions, and interpersonal relationships (familial, platonic or intimate). In 2022, she completed an artist’s residency at the Parramatta Artists’ Studios Open program. Celine holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts/Arts degree from UNSW Art & Design. Her work has been exhibited in various ARIs and institutions, including Pari and Diversity Arts Australia in Parramatta, Newcastle Art Gallery, and AIRspace Projects in Sydney. She is currently interested in how dreams and aspirations stand in conflict with a haunted past in the context of migration in Western Sydney.
